245 Riversmead

This building was built in 1849 by Robert Ward Shepherd as a home for himself and his recent bride, the daughter of P. F. C. DeLesderniers. An immigrant from Norfolk, England, Captain Shepherd and others formed the Ottawa River Navigational Company. He became its second president after Sir George Simpson of the Hudson Bay Company. It is currently occupied by Fred Henshaw, great-grandson of R. W. Shepherd, and his wife Naomi.
