264 Schneider's Inn

This house, built in 1792, served as an inn for the river traffic of the North West Company, which later merged with the Hudson's Bay Company. Schneider's Wharf was the landing point for the steamers which linked the local settlers with the outside world. The inn was a social centre for farmers and merchants and an informal post office.
