This house is one of a number of homes on Main Road built on land owned by Mrs. W. C. Whitlock, the second wife of W. C. Whitlock (see 601), and the youngest daughter of J. A. Mathison (see 586). Whitlock had been arrested by Mathison, who had been appointed Justice of the Peace in 1826, on the retirement of Whitlock's father, John. His neice, Harriet Van den Burgh, had fallen in love with Mathison while visiting from the United States and married him in 1822. Whitlock in turn married Mathison's daughter in 1866, after the death of his first wife. James A. Bennett bought the building lot in 1921 and built the house in 1926; Mrs T. B. Macaulay, nÈe Margaret A. Palin, bought the property in 1944 and gave it the name of Caer Glow; Douglas P. and Betty Whiting, the current owners, have made it their home since 1959.
